The era where imagination and analysis prevailed over observation and reading, which saw the invention of Zero, the invention of Wheel, the Aryabhatta, the Bhaskara, the Ayurveda, the Rocket Science, the Vedas, the Buddhism and the much lesser-known Vimana technology formed the basis for contemporary world. Alexander the Great regarded INDIA as the abode of knowledge churning out individuals par excellence.
Ever since the field of education became a powerful machine for money making, "Excelling at Exams" has taken over the minds of our teaching fraternity. Finding a way of getting cent percent marks became more important than learning to perfection and learning beautifully; learning was slowly losing the ‘Art’ in it. Here we are not criticizing the monetary gains of any institution but the way they achieve it compromising on a student’s learnability. The Education System has been eroded of its classic way of learning. Technique and skills are given less preference than a student's uncanny ability to complete assignments and score good marks.
Consider a case: You go street shopping for a bag. The vendor quotes a price. You start bargaining even if you feel the bag is worth it. Why? Because you do not believe him. Since there is a benefit quotient involved you are compelled to bargain and save some bucks. In the same vein, if your teacher tells you that F=MA or all planets follow elliptical orbits or human blood is red in color or life began on the ocean floor you accept it with all due respect. Why can’t it be F=M/A? You don’t question him or yourselves. Why? Because you have faith in him and will be extremely satisfied with the new equation you have just learnt. When you can bargain for a temporary gain why be content with something that stays with you forever. The essence of learning lies in pointing out such minute differences in the concepts you come across which helps you understand complex sciences in the long run. Of course, there are students who want to question, but the results became more important, that such questions are not entertained. This whole situation paints a grim picture of the current pedagogical methods.
Also, not all students possessed the skills needed to think rationally. But then every human brain is blessed with the skill of progressive learning. The thought process in your brain works like a fission reaction. When you engage yourselves in the learning process and start contemplating things with others, thoughts collide, leading to the genesis of new ideas. This process only accentuates in future yielding the desired level of reasoning. All that we need is a ‘neutron’ to start with.
